Frequently Asked Questions
LedgerXpert supports the following file formats:
- PDF - Both digitally generated and scanned PDFs (OCR is used for scanned PDFs)
- TXT - Plain text files
- RTF - Rich Text Format files
- RPT - Report files often exported from banking software
For best results, digitally generated PDFs are recommended as they contain searchable text which improves accuracy.
LedgerXpert has specialized parsers for the following banks:
- HDFC Bank
- State Bank of India (SBI)
- ICICI Bank
However, our system can attempt to parse statements from any bank using our Universal Prompt System. If automatic parsing fails, you can manually map the columns using our intuitive interface.
The Universal Prompt System is a fallback mechanism that activates when automatic parsing fails. It allows you to:
- View the raw data from your statement
- Specify the delimiter that separates columns
- Map each column to standard fields (Date, Description, Amount, etc.)
- Process the data with your custom mapping
This system ensures that even if your bank or statement format isn't directly supported, you can still extract structured data.
Our AI enhancement utilizes the OpenRouter API to improve parsing accuracy, especially for complex statements. It helps with:
- Better recognition of multi-line transaction descriptions
- Improved handling of different date formats
- More accurate detection of amounts (debits, credits, balances)
- Better filtering of header, footer, and non-transaction text
This feature is optional but recommended for better results.
We take your data privacy and security seriously:
- Your bank statements are processed locally on our secure servers
- Files are stored temporarily during processing and can be deleted anytime
- We don't use your financial data for any purpose other than providing the parsing service
- If you enable AI enhancement, a portion of your statement text (with no personal identifiers) is sent to OpenRouter API for processing
- We implement industry-standard security practices to protect your data
Common Issues & Solutions
Password-Protected PDFs
Our system cannot process password-protected PDFs. Please remove the password protection before uploading.
Scanned PDF Quality Issues
For scanned PDFs, the quality of the scan significantly affects parsing accuracy.
- Ensure the scan is clear and high-resolution
- Text should be clearly readable and not skewed
- Try to get digitally generated PDF statements from your bank when possible
Parsing Failures
If automatic parsing fails, try these solutions:
- Specify the correct bank instead of using auto-detect
- Enable AI enhancement for better accuracy
- Use the Universal Prompt System to manually map columns
- Try a different file format if available (PDF instead of TXT, etc.)
